VOLUME is please to host a book launch for Viz. Inter-Arts Interventions, an evening of multi-media performances during the AWP conference, featuring Poets Theater, Neo-Benshi (Live Film Narration) and more, organized by Roxi Power & Jen Hofer.
Brent Cunningham is a writer, publisher and visual artist living in Oakland, California. He has published two books of poetry, Bird & Forest (Ugly Duckling Presse, 2005) and Journey to the Sun(Atelos, 2012). He currently works as the Operations Director at Small Press Distribution in Berkeley. Along with Kevin Killian, Camille Roy, and Elizabeth Treadwell he was one of the founders of Poets Theater at Small Press Traffic in San Francisco. He has been working on a novel for an absurdly long time.
Raquel Gutiérrez has long been a writer and live performer. She is a film actor, curator, publisher (Econo Textual Objects, established 2014), playwright, arts administrator, and community organizer. She writes about art, culture, music, film, performance and community building and creates original solo and ensemble performance compositions.Running In Place: poems about INSTITUTIONALITY is Raquel’s third chapbook released in March 2015, following #WhiteBoo and Breaking Up With Los Angeles (Econo Textual Objects, 2014).
Jen Hofer is a Los Angeles-based poet, translator, social justice interpreter, teacher, knitter, DIY/DIT book-maker, public letter-writer, urban cyclist, and co-founder of the language justice and language experimentation collaborative Antena and the cross-language organizing collective Antena Los Ángeles. Her writings and translations are available from numerous small presses, most recently belladonna, Kenning Editions, Litmus Press (forthcoming), Ugly Duckling Presse, and Writ Large Press (forthcoming). Her current work can be seen in the Coiled Serpent L.A. anthology (Tía Chucha Press), Enclave: Poéticas experimentales, Scapegoat journal, and at CLUI Wendover, and the Hammer Museum.
Laura Mullen is the author of eight books: Complicated Grief, Enduring Freedom: A Little Book of Mechanical Brides, The Surface, After I Was Dead, Subject, Dark Archive, The Tales of Horror, and Murmur. Recognitions for her poetry include Ironwood’s Stanford Prize, a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship and a Rona Jaffe Award. She lives and works in Louisiana. She is the librettist for composer Nathan Davis’ work for choir and percussion, Ask, which was will be performed at Williams College in May 2016.
Roxi Power is founder /editor of Viz. Inter-Arts, a trans-genre anthology series published at UC Santa Cruz where she teaches and is president of the lecturers’ union, UC-AFT. She has performed Neo-Benshi widely, including REDCAT, The Poetry Project, The Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, and three original scripts at The Provincetown Tennessee Williams Festival, 2013. Her writing been published in numerous journals and anthologies including War and Peace 2 (O Books) and Impossible to Hold: Women and Culture in the 1960s (NYU Press).
Rodrigo Toscano’s newest book of poetry, Explosion Rocks Springfield (Fence Books, 2016).Collapsible Poetics Theater was a National Poetry Series selection. His poetry has appeared in the anthologies Angels of the Americlypse, Voices Without Borders, Diasporic Avant Gardes, Imagined Theatres, In the Criminal’s Cabinet, and Best American Poetry. He works for the Labor Institute based in NYC. He now lives in the Faubourg Bayou Saint John of New Orleans.
